Description
Palmer & Co was founded in 1947 by seven grower families who pooled their Grand Cru and Premier Cru holdings to create a house dedicated to long‑aged Champagnes. Headquartered in Reims, the company cultivates mainly Chardonnay and Pinot Noir on chalk slopes in the Montagne de Reims and Côte de Sézanne. The Brut Réserve is a blend of roughly half Chardonnay with Pinot Noir and a small proportion of Meunier, incorporating up to one third reserve wines from a solera spanning several vintages. Primary fermentation is carried out in temperature‑controlled stainless steel, and malolactic conversion is encouraged to harmonise the components. After secondary fermentation, the wine ages on its lees in deep chalk cellars for four to five years before disgorgement and Brut dosage. At 12% alcohol, the wine has a bright straw colour and a persistent stream of fine bubbles. Aromas of baked apple, lemon zest, white flowers and toasted brioche precede a palate that is creamy, balanced and refreshing with a long, mineral finish. This Champagne offers both immediate pleasure and the capacity to age for five to eight years.
