Description
Founded in 1946 in Tain-l'Hermitage, Ferraton Pere & Fils has long specialised in northern Rhone Syrah from granite and alluvial soils, bottled with a clear, food minded line. Crozes-Hermitage La Matiniere 2023 is handled to safeguard purity: fruit is fully destemmed, fermentations take place in concrete and stainless steel at controlled temperatures, and maturation is largely in tank with a small neutral oak component to shape texture rather than add flavour. The aim is to keep fruit and pepper spice to the fore while guiding tannin. In the glass it is vivid and fragrant, folding blackberry with violet lift and a graphite thread. The palate sits at medium body with fine, fresh tannins and clean acidity, carrying length without weight. Oak influence is discreet, leaving a savoury, peppery close and a neat, dry finish. This is an archetypal Crozes for the table, reflecting careful site selection and a light touch in the cellar that favours precision, regional definition and reliable drinkability.
