Description
Established by Drs John and Brigid Forrest in 1988, Forrest Wines has been central to Marlborough's evolution from pastoral farmland to world-class winegrowing region, with particular emphasis on precision viticulture and pioneering the adoption of screwcap closures. The 2020 Riesling is drawn from estate-owned, alluvial terraces in the upper Wairau Valley - a site defined by glacial gravels, high sunshine hours and marked diurnal variation. Fruit was machine harvested and fermented slowly in stainless steel at temperatures below 15°C to preserve purity and phenolic edge. The result is a taut, dry-expression Riesling with 4.5g/L residual sugar, 7.35g/L total acidity, and 12.5% ABV. Aromatically, it is intense and finely etched: kaffir lime, lemon sherbet and jasmine with crushed stone undertones. The palate is electric and mineral-driven, with a backbone of saline acidity framing citrus peel and white florals. Structurally lean, bone-dry and nervy, it is a Riesling that will reward both immediate drinking and confident mid-term cellaring.
