Description
The Langmeil The Freedom 1843 Shiraz 2022 is a flagship Barossa Valley wine sourced from one of the oldest known Shiraz vineyards in the world, planted in 1843 by Christian Auricht. These original, dry-grown vines yield naturally low crops of highly concentrated fruit, hand-harvested and fermented in open fermenters before gentle basket pressing. The wine then matures for around 24 months in a mix of new and seasoned French oak hogsheads, building structure and complexity while preserving the purity of the old-vine fruit. Bottled at 14.5% ABV, it shows a deep crimson-purple colour and an expressive nose of ripe Satsuma plum, blackberry and blueberry layered with cedar, clove, allspice and savoury herbs. The palate is full-bodied yet remarkably balanced, with plush dark fruit at its core framed by fine-grained tannins, vibrant acidity and subtle oak spice. A long, peppery finish carries notes of dark chocolate, graphite and sweet spice. This is a benchmark Barossa Shiraz with decades of ageing potential, showcasing depth, elegance and the character of its historic vineyard.
